I love this machete. I have been looking for a great machete specifically a kukri style. The weight of the blade does the work unlike the typical latin machete. I chopped smaller trees in just 2 or 3 chops, so it does come sharp but that doesn't mean you shouldn't sharpen it. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because it is shorted than the cold steel model. This one has more weight but it is quite short, not much longer than my Next generation traditional ka-bar. The steal holds up nice even though it says it is made in taiwan. I would recommend this for anyone.

This is an awesome kukri . I too, it out a few weeks ago and man it's awesome. I'll be leaving to the desert in a few hours and will use it again, for batoning and typical camping use. I have a feeling I will be purchasing another for my father in law.

As a biologist who spends many hours working in the forests of Saipan (Mariana Islands) I found the KA-BAR 1249 to be the best machete available for our circumstances. I have tried numerous other brands, blade shapes/lengths and by far, this machete is unsurpassed for cutting through thick vegetation where larger blades usually get hung up in the cutting swing. The weight is heavy enough to easily cut through saplings and hanging vines, but not wear you out. The blade is so sharp that one must pay attention so you don't cut yourself. Several friends in Guam tried it out and immediately ordered their own.... I don't work for KA-BAR...

I own this machete along with numerous other KBAR knives. When I leave for the mountain wilderness, this goes along with me, as well as the warthog. Between the two, I'm covered for just about any situation that may come my way.
I have forgotten this machete once or twice, and have turned around and have gone, in one instance; 50 miles back to get "it" The trip was worth the results. KBAR - don't go wandering without at least one.
Without a doubt, I trust my life to these knives... I enter the wilderness not solo - I've got KBAR to keep me company!!!

I own and used one for a little over two years for everything from small work while tree trimming to building shelters in the wilderness. I've used it to carve a bow and butcher deer. This knife in the right hands can do anything.

I have had this knife for about 6 years now and have never looked it back up online until now. Its crazy how the price has gone up in that time frame. I originally paid 30 bucks for it and thought since it was so cheap i would just abuse the hell out of it and just buy a new one when the time comes.
Another great thing about this machete and the first thing you will notice when you first receive it is that it does not have a thin blade like other machetes. The blade on this bad boy is like 3 times the thickness of a regular machete which i am used to seeing others carry and it gives the knife a really nice weight which helps out a lot when chopping or swinging the knife.
Well here i am 6 years later and its still going strong like the day i got it. The paint is all but worn out but with a little WD40 here and there it still does not have a dot of rust. I have been an avid hiker for years and have always carried a smaller knife plus usually bring a small ax with me on my camping trips. After bringing this out a few times and seeing that i don't use my ax anymore, I have just been going hiking with this beauty.
This knife is extremely tough and i use it for everything you could think of. From chopping small trees to make a shelter to batoning small logs for fire wood. It has never let me down and would not hesitate to buy one eventually for the higher asking price now which is 4 times what i originally paid.
If you are on the market for a machete/do all knife, look no further and just buy this one. You wont be disappointed!

This knife.. i cant say enough.. i grew up on Buck.. i love them.. However i just had 2 buck knives fail, the 619 and the Hoodlum..
This Kabar finished both the tasks that destroyed my Buck knives..
Ive had this machete for years.. the weight is a little much, but give it the chopping power i need.
Over all i love this knife.. its my go to for a chopper/baton/i can even use it like a plainer.
Great Product, keeps an edge.

This is a workhorse utility machette. I can't say enough about the durability and usefulness of this outstanding tool. It will get the job done and you'll be glad you own this particular machette. Ka Bar is the best.
