I own this knife, and use it at campgrounds to baton wood and chop. Even though I love the wart hog and khukri machete, this one travels with me and stays at base camp. Of every knife I have which is a KBAR Product, this one is the most brilliantly designed knife as far as balance is concerned. So intuitive is this knife, that on several trips I have taken, I've forgotten I am even holding it; and have nearly jabbed myself in the opposite hand. It is as if this knife is floating in the air. From the moment you handle this fabulous knife, it feels as if you were born with "it" in your hand. No finer a camp knife can you obtain. This product is an investment in you!! If you won't be good to yourself, then don't expect anyone else to be good to you. This is a knife for life!!!!! Out of a possible rating of five, this kife gets a 15!!! I have several custom made knives which coulkd learn a lesson from the construction and balance of this knife. Needless to say, either trekking, climbing dense aboreal environments, or digging in, this is going to stand you in good stead.
I love the design ,but not if it says made in taiwan,my Father was in iwo jima,I thought these were all american made knives, used by our forefathers.
Good blade, good handle, great knife for everyday purposes. Well done!
Excellent woods knife. Batons very well, chops well. Very useful thickness and not too heavy. Very simple knife really, what's not to like? Glass filled nylon sheath would be all it needs. Who cares where it's made if the quality is good? You wont find another knife at this price that gives you so much for your money.
I want to buy this knife but I don't know if I will because it is made in Taiwan. I want an American made knife and this doesn't fit the bill. I thought ka bar knives were American made, I guess not.
I have used this knife extensively over several years and I can tell you that it is a work horse. It does everything that I demand of it. I batons very well and it chops extremely well as it bites deep into the wood. Its grip is fantastic and makes the blade feel like an extension of the hand. The steel is very strong and yet forgiving. I know that I have maintained and kept a close to factory edge on it even with all the use and marks that are evident on the blade. The ONLY complaint that I have with the knife is the horrible sheath. It simply sucks! They need to make a Spec-Plus type of sheath. (They did this already with the Becker BK5.) This would make it my all time favorite outdoor DO EVERYTHING knife. Don't let the fact that it is made in Taiwan persuade you not to buy it. You will kick yourself in the end.
Fantastic blade. The knife will chop, baton, cut, and still have be sharp enough to defeat Sauron. I noticed all the negative reviews are only negative because this knife is made in Taiwan. If you have a problem with that, don't buy the knife. A negative review is not warranted simply because it was made somewhere you don't like. That's economics, you get a darn good affordable knife but it was made in a place where production costs are lower. Nobody is forcing you to buy this blade, though at the price and the function you get, it'd be difficult to find a better knife. Honestly, the only negative thing I can say is that the sheath isn't pretty. I'm not dropping a star for that simply because it doesn't really matter if it's pretty or not, it works and that's all I care about. Dollar for dollar this is a great knife that will work harder than what you payed for it. I recommend it to anyone. Before you buy this though, keep in mind, it is carbon steel, that being said, all you need to do is a put a little bit of oil on the blade if you plan on storing it for a while.
I have had this knife for a while. It has chopped wood very well. After going through lots of logs it is still very sharp! IT has a comfy handle too. I do wish it was made in the USA but, for an 80$ knife this big, I understand why it isn't.
Love the knife. But the included sheath is just terrible! Would have given it 6 stars if a molle compatible kydex sheath was available. The odd leather sheath ruins the experience quite a bit.
Made in Taiwan. I agree with the other reviewers....I did two combat tours in the Marine Corps for my beloved country and refuse to buy a Ka-Bar with a foreign stamp on it. Listen to your customers and stop selling out to save a few bucks. Too bad, I really wanted to like this knife.
