I bought this knife in mid August this year, and went to the Oregon coast with a friend of mine. We brought our KA-BARs, these knives are excellent. That trip was the perfect way to get to know my knew blade. We cut down a couple small dead trees and built a shelter with them. This knife is truly amazing. I plan to keep it for the rest of my life. I have no doubt the it will last 2 more lifetimes.
You can't beat a classic—except to update it with modern materials, and this knife does that beautifully. This is my camp/survival knife. I'm not that big into bushcraft, but I can say that when I missed the pickup day for my Christmas tree, my KA-BAR made short work of turning said tree into dumpster-sized sticks. (If anything, I spent more time oiling it clean of pine sap than doing the actual chopping.) There are plenty of great general-purpose, fixed-blade knives out there, but this ranks among the best. You just can't go wrong with it.
I got this knife yesterday and I absoutly love it. Great feel, sharp out of the box, sturdy. The first thing I did with this knife is chop down a tree. With probably 15 swings it was down. The grip I think is leather but I'm not sure. Its kind of rubbery and it gives a really nice grip to it when your cutting down a tree. You hand doesn't slip off eithor. So yeah, waited 5 days for it and its worth the wait--and the price. I will be a returning customer.
If you are looking for a knife that has function, utility, and also "get ready for a fight you dont want." then this is that knife. Knife weight is perfect, grips are well balanced for any hand size. Its also a very beautiful piece. One to hold, admire, and respect.
i've used for a while now and it's great. my favorite get-to knife. never leave without it. if KA-BAR is reading this, i'm hoping they change two things to this knife: 1) the guard -- make it curve blade-ward, not handle-ward. it kinda hurts my hand once in a while. 2) for the pommel, use machined metal instead of powdered metal. i've seen A LOT of this knife's pommels busted while hammering stuff. machined metal please! other than that, this is a great knife. answers to all my challenges and it does well.
The most intimidating knife ever. I conceal and carry it with me everywhere I go and always feel safe. It's wicked sharp too I have a patch of arm hair missing from when I passed it over my arm haha. Best knife I have ever owned!!
This was my first fixed blade knife I got it a few months ago on my 15th birthday and I love it I have used it for everything from camping and hiking to everyday home use it is just a great knife. It comes with a super sharp blade and it holds it well. I have the plastic sheath and that is also great this is going to be with me forever since I believe it will last forever.
I've have this knife for 6 years now, and it continues to be my go to, its skinned and quartered deer, gone through bones and all. It holds and edge better than my kitchen chefs knife. it never leaves me hanging
I have owned this knife for 3+ years, and I must say that I have confidence that it would last the rest of my life if I needed it to. Like every grunt out there, I have used it for everything: cutting, hacking, prying, awling, hunting, gutting, tree felling, wood splitting, and can opening. When opening the cans in the field, I used the drop-point blade on the lid face up and tapped the heel of the knife, using the curvature of the blade to cut through the sheet metal. This cost me some of the black powder coat, but it is merely an aesthetic concern - as I bring oil in my repair kit anyway. A knife of this quality is the most critical piece of survival gear there is.
I have had/abused this knife for 14 years and its still awesome. I've paid alot more for alot less when it comes to knives. When I go to the woods my custom knives stay home. My kabar goes because it's light, tough, and sharp. It's the 30-06 of knives ( all others are compared to it ) and for good reason. Why spend $300 for a knife thats as good?
Had this knife for about 6 years now, and could not have asked for a better product. Grandparents served in the European theatre and carried ancestors of my knife, thought I'd carry on the legacy. Use it mostly as a utility knife around saltwater, sometimes as a bait knife or to put down an unruly bluefish. Well balanced, great grip when the handles wet, and good steel. Takes an edge well, and is possible to get it to almost-razor sharp, if you take your time. About 1/3 of the blade coating has come off on mine, but that was mostly due to using it for purposes not intended (like cutting rebar). Any surface corrosion comes off with the rough side of a sponge & a little elbow grease. Fantastic knife.
I knew the history behind the company and had read some review of this knife that were hit and miss. But after buying this knife i not only love this blade but i salute this company for still make these knives by hand(sharpening). Everyone else uses robot and lasers to help sharpen their blades but KA-BAR is still made by hand and best of all its made here, you know it is a quality knife if it's made here in the U.S.A. Keep up the good work KA-BAR.
I bought this knife when I started hiking again in 2010, and it has never failed me. It cut through large branches very cleanly, shaved through wood like cheese, and the edge has remained sharp for years. I'm surprised it's done so well for such a reasonable price. That said, if you're planning to conceal this, don't bother it's huge. For the great outdoors, though, it'll do fine.
This is a great knife I use mine all the time weather camping or in my back yard splitting pine 4x2 with ease this knife is a work horse and wont let you down.
This KA-BAR is the best knife on the market. I have put through hell in back from camping trips to actually being put to the test in action and it has held up each and every time. I really dig the all black look but what I would love even more is this same KA-BAR with a leather handle. I know there is others that have a leather handle but they aren't stamped "USA". They are only stamped with different military branches and sheathed with different military branches. If we could get this good ole knife just with a leather handle and plain tan leather sheath to match I would buy it in a heartbeat.
Ive been wanting one of these knives for years.I finally got one havent used it yet , but I cant keep my hands off of it.This knife is awesome cant wait to break it in
So my father fought in Vietnam and last night I found his KA BAR from when he was a marine. The blade is still beautiful and STILL has a sharp edge. I knew that they were trustworthy but after Vietnam and my father hunting with it for years, it still looks and feels new! Also after researching my dads career as a marine in nam' , I found out he actually has a confirmed kill with his trusty KA BAR. I have barely used this knife in my life but it just feels like power when it is in my hand! Great job KA BAR!
Best knife in my collection. I bought this Knife in 2010 after seeing a Marine using his USMC version to dig a fire pit on a camping trip. I have used this knife in bush crafting, and this is becoming my EDC knife.
Bought this model a few years ago, I use it still. Refurbished the coating and it looks like new again... Great buy. RFW.Smit / NL / Europe
Love this knife (1213), bought it today already wore it on my side in the bush, feel safe knowing it's there. This will be the first of several KaBar fixed knives in my collection, so VERY IMPRESSED with this knife and its build quality at a fair price, well done KaBar!
Only problem is that there is gapping between the guard and the bottom of the blade on many of these knives i have seen, I was very happy with mine as it had no happy it has held up well with every day task but i feel like it is more suited to tactical roles rather then survival the Becker BK7 is more of an everyday knife.
My relatives came to the United States from Ireland and settled in Olean. I always wanted an authentic Ka-Bar made in Olean and finally bought one. It is as sharp as a razor and the quality is second to none!
