I recently bought this knife after doing some research and despite reading some negative reviews on the internet. Having now used the knife in earnest,I really have no negative comments about it. The knife is a well made, well balanced, classic hunter with a good blade that will last for decades with just a little care and maintenance. Out of the box the knife looks stunning with the shiniest blade I've ever seen on a standard knife. Coupled with the stacked leather washer handle, brass handguard and shiny aluminium pommel it is very attractive. The knife fits my hand nicely (I'm 6'1" with medium sized hands) is light and well balanced and doesn't feel at all clumsy or overweight which is a problem I've encountered with some large knifes in the past. The workmanship is excellent and the knife feels very solid. The knife was pretty sharp when it arrived and passed the standard sharpness tests we do at home - sliced paper, shaved my arm hairs, sliced through tomato skin just by dragging it and opened a tin can etc. However, I did spend about two minutes sharpening it with a chefs diamond sharpening iron and it is now as sharp as any knife I've owned. So far its cut meat, shaved wood while whittling, chopped through 4 inch branches, sliced plastic bottles, cut rope and thin wire - all done easily and without losing its edge. This suggests that the blade quality is very good although I've seen some queries raised about it not being made from 1095 grade steel (like Kabars military knives) and also that its made in Tiawan. I don't see either of these being an issue - look up DIN 1.4116 grade steel with HRC 55-57 online and you'll see that its listed use is for high end knives, so the fact that its not made of the highest grade steel isn't relative for about 99% of people. You may need to sharpen it occasionally but not often, so its not a big deal. I actually prefer this knife to the larger Kabar military models due to its smaller size/ease of handling and the attractive finish that it has which I think is more pleasing than the "brutal" military models. In summary, I think this is a really good quality knife and a real asset to Kabars range. I have no doubt that it will serve me for many years and I'm happy with my purchase.
