There are very few things that allow you to own a true piece of history. This alone puts the KA-Bar knife in a class above others. Talk with any WWII, Korean, or Vietnam vet and they will tell you about the KA-Bar knife and how it never failed them, you may even be surprised to learn how many the different ways these veterans have used their knives.
I had not held one of these knives since 1970, but when I took my knife out of its box I felt like I was shaking hands with an old friend. I could find nothing that had changed over the years. Certainly the quality of the knife is every bit as good as it was 43 years ago. The hefty blade still gives one the confidence that this knife will perform the tasks you ask of it, within reason of course.
The handle is every bit as comfortable as I remember allowing the owner plenty of leverage when cutting or thrusting. The only "con" (and it is a minor complaint) I could find is that although very sharp the cutting edge is rough and not well honed. This criticism can quickly be overcome with a little work on a very fine stone, followed by a few minutes on a leather strop.
All in all this is a very fine knife and one that you would be proud to own. KA-Bar has shown its ability to take on tasks in the harshest elements and with the company's reputation on the line there is nothing in their new knives that says you will be disappointed.

I have wanted one of over 20years ever since the first time I ever held my grandpa's navy Ka-Bar from Koran I finally got one from him as a gift an I love it I have a lot of knives ranging from low to high end an none of them compare to the fell and over all quality!! This is one that I know I will be able to hand down to my children an it will be just as solid as the day I bought it.!

This knife is not only functional but a thing of beauty. There some pieces of equipment that are simply classics as-built, as-is like the C-47/DC-3, the Garand rifle and the KA-BAR. This new one is just as good and feels as good in my hand as the one I carried 44 years ago. That said, I agree with one of the other comments that the edge is not well finished out of the box. However, a bit a time and effort with my set of Lansky sharpeners and a leather strop has fixed that. It is nice to be able to look on the web page and see the spec for the edge angle ( 20 degrees)

I've wanted one of these ever since I was young. I never had one when I served in the Army. Being a military history buff I wanted to own a piece of history. I finally bought this knife and I love it. Balanced, super sharp, and a great example of U.S. quality. Should have bought this sooner. When you hold a Ka-Bar you feel like your ready for business.
