  - 20April2016 Update I've been using the Reinhardt hard the last few months. Discovered that the best action is a bullwhip flick of the wrist at the end of the stroke. Adds cutting force. The steel is very hard and takes concentration to sharpen. I don't cut for the hell of it. This is a tool. My worst problem is briers and I go at their roots. Half the time I ding shale or limestone here in the Appalachians. The edge holds up well and this is why I paid top dollar for this tool: for the quality steel. It took a few months to "feel" the sweet spot and once I learned it I can slice through a 2 inch hardwood limb with one stroke. It's not a muscle thing but a golf swing thing. When I swing the sweet spot of the belly and contact the target right, at the proper angle, and give the bullwhip flick, the tool does the job, not muscle. A cheap tool will wear you out. This Reinhardt kukri is a quality tool that takes time to use. I'm not a weekender. I use this several hours a day, about 5 days a week. If this took was junk it wouldn't get done what I need done. Because it is a quality tool it requires time. Like soldiers and adventurers of old purchased the best swords they could afford, because a weapon must become personal and only quality can become personal. The Becker Reinhardt is worth the money and you will come to appreciate it after a while. I cruise the other offerings by other manufacturers and none can touch the BK&T Reinhardt kukri. Note to Kabar: I would like to see the blade a bit longer, like 14 inches. Otherwise, no complaints. DR

  - Timeless. A modern symbol of a bygone age. A necessary friend to have no matter where in time you find yourself. A precision engineered element whose utility and capability is not diminished by any place or time. These are all terms that could and should be used to describe Hank Reinhardt. That is why taking hold of the kukri named after him is like shaking hands with an old friend. The Becker/Reinhardt Kukri is so well balanced that it feels nearly weightless in the hand. Yet strike a log with it, feel how easily and deeply it cuts, then you'll know that you are wielding something meaty and ferocious. Strike that same log repeatedly, the kukri is still as sharp as when you first pulled it smoothly from its sheath. It testifies that its material quality matches its engineering quality. Learn to throw it and you'll watch it fly towards its target with lightning speed and precision. It will even forgive the multiple attempts you made learning how to throw it correctly until the quality of your throw matched the quality of the weapon. Every time the steel clears its cover, you're visiting with a faithful companion you can learn from and who will happily follow your direction. If you can't have the actual Hank there with you, this kukri will at least remind you that he cares.

  - Best Kukri I have ever used. I took this on a camping trip and chopped a clear line to the creek directly from our campsite. Buy, it is totally worth it. Please never stop making this blade!!!

  - I admit the Hank Reinhardt kukri was an impulse buy... However, I believe this is probably one the best kukri on the market. It's shape is very close to the shape of the kukri that the Gurkhas use, coupled with Kabar steel makes this a very practical tool. I wish I would've gotten the kydex sheath.

  - I've been testing the Becker-Reinhardt kukri for a week now in the bush of Applachia. It is an excellent tool, a combination of weapon and brush cutter. It is fast and gives you good reach if you have to touch someone or something. I took down a 3 inch locust tree in about 30 seconds. I tried a 6 inch locust, got down to the heartwood and quit. I could have taken it down but a locust is the toughest tree in North America and it was more work than I wanted to carry through. I dinged the edge on rocks chopping out briar roots. This metal is 1095 cro-van, I think, a bit harder than Ka-Bar's Taiwanese machetes, and doesn't ding like the 1085 steel of the Taiwanese machetes, which are also very tough. I also have the Ka-Bar Kukri machete and Cutlass machete, also excellent tools (Taiwan). The Taiwant machete chops a bit better than the Reinhardt, but it is shorter and the stock is a bit thinner. My first impression of the Reinhardt was I thought the hilt was too thin, too much metal removed. But after heavy duty chopping on a locust I did not sense any weakness at that point. I like the simplicity of it, full tang, riveted handle. Here is my only critique of this piece, and it is merely one of metrics: the handle is not massive enough to control the blade for me. So I rolled two pieces of bicycle innertube on it and now I've got the palm swell it need. If I was going into serious bush time with the prospect of violence against man or beast I would carry the Reinhardt first choice. You can't go wrong with this tool. It is an excellent value for the money also. The competition like Cold Steel can't touch it, Ontario et al. can't touch it.
