Red Spacer USMC KA-BAR #6417 The Red Spacer KA-BAR is arguably the most collectible KA-BAR Knife made during World War II. The distinct red spacer below the hand guard and above the leather washer has caught the eye of collectors for decades. Though originals are rare and expensive, KA-BAR’s State & Union shop has made a small batch of this iconic knife. The leather washers are shaped by hand and dyed to create an aged appearance. The pommel is ground down to replicate the dimensions of the original. Each red spacer is hand made to be slightly longer than the current spacer used on KA-BAR Fighting/Utility Knives. The blade is sandblasted, then cold gun blued. The sheath undergoes an ageing process to darken the leather and match the original sheath color. PLEASE NOTE THE BLADE HAS A "USMC" STAMP $225.00

  - I just received my new Ka-Bar knife. It was as described and Razor Sharp. I didn't get my Dad's Ka-Bar from the late 50's and early 60's. Which was made of top quality material and this knife was used and literally wore out over the years. I would be happy if this new knife is half as good as my Dad's original Ka-Bar.

  - When I was a boy growing up in Hawaii in the early 1950's my dad bought a used USMC KA-BAR with leather sheath. Both were pretty beat up but still solid and serviceable. You could tell it was well made. He bought it for yard work and other stuff around the house. I fell in love with that knife then.. As a young army paratroop in 1970 I carried one with me in Nam. Afterward as an active outdoors man, I always had a KA-BAR on my belt or in my pack every hunting season throughout Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Alaska. It felt like part of me and like an old friend, it never let me down even in some hairy situations. I'm 63 now and I don't hunt much anymore or spend much time out in the field. But I just recently bought a new KA-BAR, the Full-Size Straight Edge USMC. This one goes in our earthquake emergency kit. When it comes to a knife that is trustworthy, strong and Made in America, one that I can depend on, this knife is IT! There are plenty of knives out there, good ones, but this is the only one for me.   - Ive had the same Ka-Bar that my grandfather used in WW2, passed to my dad when he went to Vietnam and then on to me. It is unreal how long this knife has been in use and its just as strong and dependable today as it was then. When I'm done with it it will go to my son, but he wont be getting it anytime soon. Ive still got plenty of camping to do :)

  - It doesn't get more classic than this! For the most part, this is the knife by which all other tactical and military knives were derived from, and the design is still strong. The construction on this knife is as solid as it gets. The leather is well sealed and holds up very well to use. The 1095 blade is thick and very agile in the hand. I have both the plastic and leather sheath, and both are great. If you had to grab one knife and go, you can do a lot worse than the classic, full-size USMC KA-BAR. No collection should be without one.

  - First of all... I have been called a knife expert. I know what steel makes a good blade, I know good durability and I have friends that recommend good knives to me. This one in particular was recommended by many of my friends, so I bought it. And I must say this is a very good quality knife. This knife is not excellent at one particular thing. It is good at everything it is designed to be and even beyond those specs. My opinion to everyone that thinks about getting one of these knives... YES, You would be a "fool" not to own this Knife!!! The only downside to this knife is that the powder coating comes off relatively easy...

  - Well I'm 25 now, I got this knife when I was 16 years old before I joined the USMC. Besides boot camp and School of Infantry I took this with me most of the time in the USMC, two Iraq deployments and now I'm in the Army National Guard and I still use it. It can cut through a 1 to 2 inch tree in one chop. It's very durable. I also would say from all the knives I've paid a couple hundred dollars or more for, the USMC KA-BAR is definitely one of the best bangs for your buck!!!!

  - I just received my first KA-BAR as a present from my wife and I must say that I am excited just to own something so well crafted and stout I can hardly contain myself. I live high in the Sierra Nevada mountains and am an avid Outdoorsman. Believe me this knife will be put through the ringer.   - I liked almost everything about the knife. The steel is really good and the leather handle is pleasure to hold. Nice leather sheath also. If there's a weak point, it's this knife's thin stick tang which will bend where the blade meets the guard when used for heavier chores. For light-medium duty, it's strong enough.

  - I've decided to add my Ka-Bar story to those I've been reading here. Mine began 75 years ago when I walked into an Army-Navy Surplus store, about two years after the end of World War II. A magical place displaying all things "left over" from that war and at very low prices to their true value. I walked out of that store with 2 USMC Ka-Bar knives (like their current #1217). Total cost was 50 cents each which included the leather sheath. One of those became my salt water skin diving knife, strapped to my leg when diving. The second knife I put into "reserve" for some other day. It's now 75 years later and for the past 20+ years that knife has received the consideration it deserves, residing in bank safe deposit box, still essentially like the day that I bought it for 50 cents. I often think of and pray for all the young boys who depended upon its like during that war, many who never returned home.

  - I had one of these in black leather when I was in high school and ended up trading it to a friend for god knows what. Anyways, I always wanted to replace it and I finally did replace it with the tan leather USMC version. This blade is perfect for chores and the yard and camping. I plan to also take it with me when I go hiking. This blade is a piece of US history and is probably the most popular knife along with a Bowie and Buck knife. I know the price has increased over the years but what hasn't, this thing is still built really good and a good value if you ask me.   - I am a knifemaker for a living. I love metallurgy, and as such my FAVORITE steel is anything high carbon with a touch of chromium for wear resistance. Aside from the vanadium, this steel is very close to the 5160 spring steel i use for my knives. It cost me $130 to make a blade that equaled this blades performance with a hardwood handle. This Ka-Bar dug a hole like a champ, chopped through kindling like nothing, and built a shelter. All i need to survive the harsh wilderness now is this knife, and a flintstrike. This knife will go from building my shelter, to splitting my wood, to digging a hole, then on to gutting, skinning and prepping game, this knife is all i need to sustain a good healthy knife. Tanto's, zombie choppers, and the fancy blades are nice, but you'll never beat the tried and true shape of a ka-bar or bowie in this call back to a more powerful age. This is american engineering-industry at its finest, and i even turn clients to ka-bar if my $150-175 aren't in their range, because honestly, they perform just as well as this kabar that is offered for under $100. Thank you for bringing me an amazing blade that far outperforms its price. And out of ALL their blades, this one is my absolute favorite! God bless ka-bar, god bless America!

  - I just joined the Marine Corps and i'm shipping off to basic in a few weeks. The day I signed, my dad surprised me with this bad boy. Needless to say, i'm in love. Comes out of the box crazy sharp, and I love the stacked leather washer handle. I have nothing bad to say about the knife itself, but the leather sheath gets scraped when you insert the knife in it.   - I got my KA-BAR on my on my 18th birthday just before moving out on my own. Since then it has been used to do everything from intimidating would-be attackers to ensuring my survival in the wildnerness to cutting up meat and vegetables for a nice dinner and picking my teath after that meal. The clip point also makes an excellent back scratcher. I have been an avid knife collector for most of my life but after I got my KA-BAR, I haven't bought another fixed blade knife because I wouldn't be using it. It would just collect dust while the KA-BAR serves me better than any Chinese peice of garbage ever could.

  - I got my Ka-bar while stationed in Quantico while Active in the Marines, in 1971..During my 8 years in the Corps, it almost never left my side. It was used for everything and then some. I even openned cans with it when I could not find my P-38. Always stayed sharp and never lost its edge..other than a few light swipes on a stone and back in business. After my Discharge, I became a Police Officer and my Ka-bar served me during all my years as a cop.   - I'm an avid knife collector, and I just bought this a little over a month ago and WOW! Fell in love with this knife right out of the box. It feels great in my hand, the leather smells nice and is of good quality and the blade is very sharp. I carry this knife every where I go and does the jobs I need it to. Despite it being a fighting knife, this thing serves many other purposes and I can't get enough it. It looks great on my hip and have lots of compliments on it as well. The only down side to this, which doesn't even really matter is the black coating comes off real easy. This is still by far my favorite knife in my collection.

  - My first fixed blade knife was a USMC KaBar. I was 11. I was obsessed with WW2 and my dad bought me one from the military surplus store. It was my go-to camping knife. I loved it. Sometime while I was in college it got misplaced and I bought a brand new one about 3 years ago. It's just as awesome as my old one. I've owned three knives by this company. 2 USMCs and a BK2. All three were absolutely great. I use the BK2 as my go-to hiking and camping tool now, and my 12 old son carries my USMC just as I did so long ago.   - My Godfather gave me his KA-BAR when he returned from duty in Korea in '53. I was only ten at the time but I used it until '86 when I split from my ex. Somehow it got left behind and I never saw it again. I just bought another and other than the finish being a black no shine and the slightly different leather sheath it is the same knife. High quality throughout and it came with razor sharpness. I expect it to last until I pass on. In the meantime it makes a great letter opener and general use utility knife only as my fighting days are long over. If someone wants to fight me I will just shoot them because old men who can't fight do that.

  - This is the best knife I have ever owned. I have had this knife for 33 years and I have beaten the s--t out of it. I have cut down small trees, hammered in tent stakes, practiced knife throwing, used it to chop wood with a hammer, used it as a fire poker, and even shaved with it. It has been a constant companion in many dangerous places and on many a relaxed hunting or fishing trip. I have other knives, including some high dollar handmade Damascus.   - During my time in the Marine Corps Infantry I carried a KA-BAR. When in the field the knife was always at my side and did everything an infantryman could possibly need it to. There is really nothing more to say. The KA-BAR's history speaks for itself. Fortunately, the KA-BAR appears to be built to those same high standards today. I just received one and it is perfect.

  - I've had several of these, unfortunately. I say unfortunately because I wish I'd never had to replace them! My first I found in an Army surplus store when I was 15 or so. It was new in box and very underpriced even in those days, so I snatched it up immediately for the $30 asking price. When I showed it to my grandfather who collected some militaria, he showed me one he'd gotten from a friend of his. The handle had somehow been broken off at the tang, so the previous owner welded on a custom handle with knuckles. Several years later, after carrying and using my Kabar almost daily, I was in a tight bind and had to sell it. The handle, a light blonde when I got it, and reddish brown sheath, were both solid black from use. I'd carried it hunting, camping, fishing, and in combat in Afghanistan. As soon as I was able, I got another one. But that wasn't until after my deployment to Iraq, where I carried a vintage Buck. Carried my new Kabar from 2006-2012. Meanwhile, I inherited my grandfather's in 2009. They were both stolen in a robbery in 2012. Have yet to replace it because that was also the year I got divorced and I haven't gotten back to a position where I can enjoy the outdoors activities that I used to. I will soon though! And you'd better believe I'll be getting a new Kabar before I get back into camping and fishing every weekend. It'll look good on my belt next to my .44 mag. My Buck simply isn't capable of taking the abuse a Kabar can and my machete is great for backpacking but a bit big for woods carry. Hands down, Kabar is the best knife I've ever owned, and I'm a collector. Get one, carry it, USE it, and yes, abuse the hell out of it. All other knives will always feel inadequate in comparison for the rest of your life, I guarantee it.

  - I’ve carried a Ka-Bar for about 30 years. I understand what it can and cannot do, so I never have problems. Considering how it was intended to be used, some of the features people complain about are actually desirable features. The stick tang, for example. Keeps the knife light, balanced and able to perform 95 percent of the tasks that anyone would ever need. Trust me, if things go sideways, you don’t want to try defending yourself with a quarter inch, 1 lbs. blade. I do wish that 90 grew angle, where the blade and tang meet, was rounded a bit. It would eliminate the weak spot created by that 90 degrees. BUT...not even close to a deal breaker. Don’t beat on it, trying to split logs, then complain if it breaks. That is not a failure, any more than a Swiss Army Knife being beaten through a log and breaking would be a failure. I just can’t possibly recommend it more than I already do. If I were lost in the wilderness (which I actually was...long story), or suddenly dropped into the middle of a war zone, I would be ecstatic to have a Ka- Bar, especially the 1217 ’ not only functional, but a nice looking knife, as well.

  - I received the full size USMC as a gift from a friend before going to Papua New Guinea for a year where I put this knife through "bush" life. I used it almost every night to prepare kindling for fires. I batoned with the knife (more on that later), I gutted and filleted fish from a river, I dug with it, I cleared brush and chopped bamboo, I cut sugar cane, etc... Overall I am very happy with the blade. It cut everything I wanted to cut. If you use it as a knife, than it is an excellent blade. If you want a pry bar or something to baton with on a regular basis, this is probably not the knife for you. By the end of the year the handle was bending downward from the spine of the blade and was on the verge of snapping. Ka-Bar did warranty the knife and I want to thank them for excellent customer service. I will not be batoning with this new knife as I did the last, the rat tail tang just doesn't have enough metal for that kind of abuse. That said, I did beat it up for a year in the rain forest, so it isn't some sissy knife. I expect this new one to last a while and would recommend it to anyone looking for an excellent camp knife; just take an ax along.

  - This is a knife you can live and die by, and you should. It's not the most tactical or lightweight but it has served military personnel and hunters alike for the last 70+ years. Keep yours oiled and sharp and it will outlast you. This is something that you will pass on to someone you care about so it may serve them as well as it has served you which is what I intent to do. I'm only 17 years old so I got a lot of mileage to put on this knife and I have no doubts about its capabilities.

  - Growing up in a very rural part of Pennsylvania, knives, axes, and chainsaws have been a consistent aspect of my life since I was a little kid. Pocket knives went to school, hunting knives were worn on weekends and of course during hunting seasons. I started camping by myself at age eleven. In my twenties I started wandering really far afield, well out of state, and the old KaBar Marine Corps knife was a natural acquisition to go along on my adventures. Thirty-some years later, that KaBar knife has been with me on fishing, camping, serious backpacking, and hunting trips from Maine to Alaska and a lot of places in between, including Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, North Carolina, Vermont, and the Adirondacks. It is not a hunting knife, though it can serve as one if needed. For strictly hunting close to roads I carry a custom knife with a 4" blade made of one of the super performance stainless steels. But for all-around woods time, absolutely nothing beats the big KaBar. It has pounded in tent stakes, cut down pine and spruce saplings, easily batoned and split hardwood firewood, stirred the mess kit pot, without any concern for its welfare. A lot of serious abuse would have to happen before this knife gets damaged. I will take it to my grave.

  - Most badass knife ever just got mine today and you think it looks cool in the pictures it's even better in real life. I knew the blade was 7 inches and it is exactly but it feels so big and cool plus it's great for getting rid of dead skin but anyway totally worth it 100/10 would recommend

  - Got my KA-BAR when I left the Army in '71 and moved to Colorado in '73. Used it for everything including years of wilderness trips by foot and canoe. Never thought I needed anything but my KA-BAR and my SAK (sometimes a smaller blade is handy). I can't think of ANYTHING else I've owned and used for that long and that says something.
